Point101 Launch Giclee Website for Budding Photographers and Illustrators
A new website aims to guide newcomers into the world of giclee printing and showcase the most exciting images with a weekly competition. The website is aptly named http://www.gicl.ee Giclée is a fine art term describing high quality, short-run prints.
The most popular big format printing process is the Giclée, or Inkjet. The print maker Jack Duganne coined the name “Giclée” in 1991. Working with IRIS printers to reproduce fine art prints, Duganne was looking for a name that was more attractive than

How do I tell the difference between a Giclee and a Lithograph?
Q: I have a Jim Gray print called "The Angler". I'm thinking of selling it and trying to find out what it is worth. I find that the pricing is somewhat different between giclee and a lithograph; and between canvas and paper.
You will need a magnifier to tell the difference, unless you have sharp eyes. The lithograph will have a pattern of dots, generally the four color process inks, cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. Most often they will have a regular pattern, but new processes are being developed to give them a more random pattern.
What specific model printers are used to make giclee canvas prints?
Q:
A: Modern large format printers are capable of printing onto canvas rolls measuring 60" or more.
Modern examples of inkjet-based printers capable of printing directly onto canvas are the HP Designjet z6100 and the Epson Stylus Pro 9880.
Printers such as these allow artists and photographers to print their works directly
San Rafael artist raises and paints butterflies
21.07.11
SAN RAFAEL ARTIST MaryAnn Nardo not only paints butterflies, she's raised them from eggs. As something of a butterfly wrangler, she's been able to combine her interest in science with her career in art.
"Since my background is in fine art and scientific illustration, I like to join those two worlds," she said. "I work from many sources, but I like raising butterflies to really get the feel of them. And it's fun."
After a neighbor gave her anise and milkweed branches with butterfly eggs on them, Nardo put the plants in a jar and watched a swallowtail and a monarch butterfly come into the world through their four-part life cycle — egg, larva, pupa and adult.
